TRE™ · Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises

Let your body shake it out.

TRE™ is a quick and powerful tool to release stored tension, so stress can move through the body and discharge, instead of staying stuck.

How it works

TRE™ is a series of simple exercises developed by Dr David Berceli. They gently stretch and tire the body section by section. Then you lie down, and a soft, involuntary shaking begins. This is what we call neurogenic tremors.

Animals do this naturally after a scare. Children often do too. Somewhere along the way, most adults learn to hold it in. TRE™ gives your body a safe, structured way to remember.

You stay in charge of how much you feel, all while staying grounded, present and safe. You can pause or stop the tremor at any time by simply going into the stop position.

What people often notice

  • Feeling calmer, lighter or more spacious afterwards
  • Less tightness in the hips, back, shoulders or jaw
  • Deeper rest and better sleep
  • A clearer sense of what's happening in the body versus the mind

Everyone's body is different, and experiences vary from session to session.

What does a shake look like?

The tremor can look like a gentle flutter in the legs, a rhythmic bounce through the hips, or a wave travelling up the spine. It's often more subtle, and more ordinary, than people expect.
